April Free Blocks

I'm back with the blocks for April. When I think of April, I always think of the old saying "April showers bring May flowers". So I've tried to go with an umbrella theme. Dresden Plates have always reminded me of looking down at the top of an umbrella, especially the one with pointed edges, so this months traditional pieced block is my version of a Dresden Plate.

For my foundation pieced block, I went with actual umbrellas. Please note that these foundations do not include the 1/4" seam allowances that my other foundations have included. Do not cut on the outer line, instead place your ruler's quarter inch line on the outer edge and cut. This will add the needed seam allowance.

This month looks to be a busy one for me so instead of extra projects, I'm adding an extra block. It is a basket block that you can fill as you wish. I filled mine with Easter eggs fussy cut from some fabric in my stash. A friend of mine made the block and put flowers in her basket. I don't have pictures but it was lovely.

New BOM Started

Sorry it's been so long! I've been a bit under the weather. Nothing serious, but I have spent most of my time in the recliner not doing much except reading(blogs and books). 

The quilt guide that I belong to has started a new BOM project and the lady that put it together has done a wonderful job. Here's my first three blocks. I have always had trouble making these blocks but I must say I'm pleased with these.

The designer's quilt was done in lovely, bright colors. We, of course, have the option to use whatever we what. I decided it is time to fill the big empty space over my cutting table and since my sewing room is in pastels, my quilt will be also. In all the blog reading I have been doing to fill the time in the recliner, I found a lovely quilt with every block different(sorry I can't remember where I saw it). I think this is what I'm going to do so two of these blocks will end on the back...maybe! 

I will return soon with April's blocks. I'm including a extra one instead of the additional projects next month. I'm, also, participating in my first blog hop and will have a fun block and project for that!

Additional Projects Using the March Blocks

I'm back again with additional projects using the March blocks. This time I have a pillow using the Kite block.

 I've also created a mug rug using the Shamrock block.

Design Floor Monday

Here's what's on my design floor today.

It's a quilt for my younger grandson. I've been working on this for a while now and I'm finally thinking the end is in sight. I loosely used this pattern.

 I say loosely because I've changed it quite a lot. I've made the blocks bigger and I'm making it square instead of rectangular. I've also modified the train and added cars, planes, and boats to the plain blocks. Now I just have to finish ironing on the rest of the borders and blocks and applique them. You might notice that there are many small circles involved, so that should be interesting! I'm really happy with how it's looking so far and can't wait to actually finish.
